Alternative Program

Accelerated Learning
BSLC Accelerated program is a face-to-face program for students who:
Wish to catch up on their academic schedule
Plan to get ahead on their academic schedule
Wish to enhance academics in conjunction with their current high school (Based on student need, classes can be scheduled before,during or after school hours)

Who is eligible to enroll in the program?
Students are eligible to enroll in the BSLC Accelerated Program if all of the following criteria have been met:
1. Parent and student have met with high school counselor/principal to discuss academics and obtained approval from the school (signature on referral form)
2. Parent and student have met at BSLC and obtained approval from the Director (signature on referral form)
3. Referral Form Completed
4. Student application is completed

Behavioral Intervention
A student may also be referred to the Alternative Program by behavioral reasons given by the school in which a student is attending prior. A student may have to come to the Alternative Program for a certain number of days before attending their middle or high school of origin. Attendance to Barr St determined this way is determined through a hearing and a letter being sent to the principal about said student. A student and parent will then come to BSLC and fill out student application form.

Student Resources

If you didn't finish high school, there are free classes at Lancaster Adult Education to prepare you to take the GED® test. Also, the GED Ready® test is offered Lancaster Adult Education the price is $6.99 per sub-test unless GED testing service is offering a special discounted rate.

If you are a high school graduate and need to improve your reading, math or communication skills, you can obtain free services through Lancaster Adult Education.

Adult Education

Adult education services provide academic skills instruction, GED preparation, High School Diploma and reading instruction for eligible adults. Adult education assists adults in improving educational attainment levels and successfully entering employment and continuing education. The instruction may also include life skills, employability skills and computer literacy as well as Career and Technology Training.

Career & Technical Education

Career education consists of job specific training in the areas of Welding and CNA These services are offered during evening hours at the Lancaster County Career Center.

English as a Second Language

ESL instruction is provided to adults who want to become more fluent in English, pass U.S. citizenship tests and work on job-seeking skills.

English language/civics education helps students acquire the skills and knowledge to become U.S. citizens.

Workforce Education

Lancaster County Adult Education programs provide instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRS) to assist unemployed (and under-employed) individuals, as well as individuals seeking to transition to postsecondary education and ultimately employment with family sustainable wages to improve academic and workplace skills in pursuit of a GED®.

Transitions to Post Secondary Education

LCAE is committed to moving more GED® graduates on to postsecondary education. The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and college programs for more than 20 million graduates since 1942. The GED test is accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and employers.

Need Help Learning English?

Each county in Lancaster has a center and classrooms for adult education conveniently located. Instruction is provided to adults who want to become more fluent in English, pass U.S. citizenship tests and work on job-seeking skills.

English speaking, reading and writing are very important. Better English skills positively affect daily life, work opportunities and learning. Many students come to English classes with no previous English language learning. Adult educators are very experienced and enjoy working with adult students of all nationalities and backgrounds.

The adult education centers throughout the Commonwealth provide comfortable learning methods and environments. The students get the skills and tools necessary to help them adapt successfully to life in Lancaster.
