Four Lancaster County graduates are a step closer to their dream of teaching in Lancaster County, thanks to scholarships from the Lancaster County School District Teacher Forum.

“We’re very excited about these four outstanding students committing to returning to our county to teach,” 2016-17 Teacher Forum chair Lisa Hallman said. “Our students deserve the best and brightest teaching them everyday, and these four young people certainly have the enthusiasm, intellect and willingness to work that makes teachers great.”

Teacher Forum has awarded over $30,000 in scholarships to students majoring in education who agree to return to Lancaster County to teach after they earn their education degrees. Teachers and staff across the county fund the scholarships by paying $5 one day a month to wear jeans to work.
This year’s winners are

     –     Lancaster High graduate Lauren Crapps, who received a $1,000 scholarship and will attend Winthrop University, majoring in middle-level education.

     –     Indian Land High graduate Austin Gordon, who received a $2,000 scholarship and will attend Newberry College, majoring in biology.

     –     Buford High graduate Catherine Anne Langley, who received a $2,000 scholarship and will attend Winthrop University, majoring in early childhood education.

     –     Andrew Jackson High graduate Bailey Walker, who received a $2,000 scholarship and will attend Anderson University, majoring in secondary education with a concentration in math.
