A message from Dr. Phipps-

Good evening,

Gov. Henry McMaster and state Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced today that all schools will remain closed through the end of the school year.

We are thankful to our teachers, students and families for the excellent job each of you have done over the past six weeks and in the weeks ahead adjusting to distance learning.

All buildings will continue to be closed.

We understand that there are questions and concerns about today’s announcement. We are working on plans for graduations and ceremonies. As soon as the details are finalized, we will send that out.

Please continue to stay healthy and safe.

–Meals
Wednesday, March 25 update
There was more participation than expected this week from the previous week. The 5 sites will be open Monday 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Students should be in the vehicle when food is picked up. SROs (Law enforcement) will be added to the feeding sites next week for added security as some participants were caught visiting multiple locations which greatly impacted our estimates.

The 5 sites are as follows:
•     Andrew Jackson High
•     Buford High
•     Lancaster High
•     AR Rucker Middle
•     South Middle

It has been an added challenge in ordering the food as some items are not being delivered. HOPE in Lancaster is also giving out food for those who may need assistance. When we receive calls we are helping folks find resources such as HOPE or Transformation Church to have needed resources.

Wednesday, March 25, meal distribution begins at Indian Land High School, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for qualifying students in the Indian Land area. The student who qualifies for free or reduced priced meals must be present in order to pick up meals.

3 days of food will be provided in one bag. After this week, food for 5 days (5 lunch and 5 breakfasts) will be regularly distributed on Monday’s from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

–Field Trip refunds
Wednesday, March 25 update
The first round of refunds was processed last week (3/18). This round included 510 checks totaling over $32,000. There are 569 refunds keyed for payment next Monday (3/30) totaling nearly $30,000. The focus has been on the highest dollar refunds first since those will have the most impact on families that may be struggling now.

Refunds continue to be processed as they are submitted by the schools.

Please check with your school if you have any questions about your refund. Thank you for your patience since the refunds may take longer than usual due to the volume being processed.
