Icy roads, dangerous parking lots mean schools closed Thursday, Jan. 13

Black ice, icy roads in neighborhoods and rural areas, and unsafe parking lots and sidewalks mean schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 13.
“We spent much of Wednesday traveling the county to check road conditions,” superintendent Gene Moore said. “There’s still a dangerous amount of ice on roads, especially in neighborhoods and rural areas. We want to return to school as soon as possible, but our first concern is the safety of our students, our parents and our staff. After considering all the factors and consulting with law enforcement, we decided closing was safest thing to do.”

Omg! What about the 2 basketball games that were planned for Tuesday and Thursday??? And will the makeup days be on our spring break??
No, probally not… They just may add it to the school year… Longer school… No fun!
Please give us an idea as to when the makeup days for this week will be. I feel sure the Mondays now scheduled off in February and March will have students in school, but would like to have word from the District ASAP.
I comend the school for making that decision. My daughter doesn’t ride the bus but where we live I really don’t believe that a bus could come down our road safely. People need to realize that if the roads are in bad shape and the school makes the decision to have school and kids were to get hurt then the liability lies on the school. Just be thankful that the school is looking out for the children and not just an education.
I still can’t get my car out of the driveway and it’s late Thursday afternoon. I doubt things will be better early Friday morning.
I’m glad they were closed. I think they should be closed Friday also. Myself and my children cannot even walk outside to our van without falling. Just because primary roads are open and dry doesn’t mean that secondary ones are. Our road is slick, icy and we only live 1 mile from the school.
hey are you out of school and in the ice
Come on Lancaster Co! Why wait till the last minute to call off school. Chester co. reported by noon yesterday!!
