2014-15 Conservation Teacher of the Year for Grades 7-12

The 2014-15 Conservation Teacher of the Year for Grades 7-12 is Buford High agricultural teacher Troy Helms.

”Troy really practices what he teaches daily and truly deserves this honor,” Board of Trustees Bobby Parker said during the presentation of a Trustees Award to Troy during the March 17 board meeting. “We appreciate all he does to help our students succeed and to bring honor and distinction to our district.”

Troy teaches Agriculture Science, Horticulture, Turf and Lawn Management and Agriculture Mechanics.

The S.C. Association of Conservation Districts Awards Committee presents the award to a teacher who focuses curriculum on the importance of preserving natural resources and who leads by example by using environmentally friendly practices in everyday tasks.

Troy is a DuPont Agriscience Ambassador and a coach to students in the Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation District Public Speaking Competition.

Last spring, he led two students to first and second places finishes in the competition.
