Schools will be open Monday, Oct. 9 for a regular student day to make up for the day students missed Monday, Sept. 11 when schools were closed because of the threat of dangerous weather from Hurricane Irma.

Oct. 9 was originally scheduled as a holiday for students so teachers could take part in professional development activities.

The day is one of the days the district designated as make-up days when the calendar was developed.

“Oct. 9 is the next scheduled make-up day on the calendar, and we believe it’s important to use the make-up day because we still face the possibility of winter weather and more missed days,” Superintendent Jonathan Phipps said.

State law requires schools to be in session 180 days a year.

Teachers will make up the Oct. 9 professional development day later in the year.
