Available to senior citizens who live in Lancaster County

Senior citizens who live in Lancaster County can now attend school sports events free through Lancaster County School District’s new Gold Card program.

“We’re excited to begin this program this year,” superintendent Jonathan Phipps said. “We believe it’s great way to thank our seniors for all they do for our students and a great tool for increasing senior citizen support for our schools.”

A Gold Card allows a senior citizen to be admitted free to any school sports events at district schools – except playoff games.

Senior citizens 65 years old or older and who live in lancaster County can pick up the cards at any district school or at the district office by showing a valid ID proving they are 65 years old or older. Senior citizens will also be asked to complete a sign-up form.

When senior citizens present the cards at games for free admission, they must also show a valid photo ID proving they are 65 years old or older.

A person who will not show an appropriate ID cannot use the card for free admission.

“We’re asking principals to help us make sure senior citizens are aware of the Gold Card program. We’re also working to get out information about the program through local media and through our website and social media,” Phipps said. “We want every senior citizen to know we appreciate the support they give our schools.”
