Alive At 25 classes will be offered March 2 at Andrew Jackson High & March 16 at Buford High.

Every student who wants to park on campus must complete Alive At 25.
Here’s a list of when and where the next round of courses is offered.
•     Saturday, March 2 at Andrew Jackson High
•     Saturday, March 16 at Buford High

The classes will be held from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at each location.

•     The course

–     is 4 1/2 hours in length and is taught by a certified police officer.

–     costs $40.

–     The school district does not process registrations for the class.

–     All payments for the class should be sent to the S.C. National Safety Council, 121 Ministry Drive, Irmo, SC 29063.

–      None of the money collected goes to the school district. All of the fees go to the National Safety Council to cover course costs.

•      Any student with a financial hardship is eligible for a scholarship for the course. Please contact the S.C. National Safety Council at (803) 732-6778 to request a scholarship application.

•      No student will ever be denied access because of lack of financial resources.

“Student drivers are required to take Alive At 25 as part of our district’s effort to help our students realize how deadly things like texting while driving and speeding can be,” safety director Bryan Vaughn said. “We’ve seen a significant decrease in the number of accidents among teen drivers, and we believe that requiring students to take Alive At 25 as well as efforts by local law enforcement have a lot to do with that decrease. We want to do everything we can to help our young drivers stop behaviors that increase their chances of accidents.”

After extensive research, the district found Alive At 25 – one of the most successful programs in the country at changing students’ negative driving behaviors.

•      This program
–      focuses on correcting negative tendencies of young drivers such as texting while driving, speeding and other inattentive behaviors.

–      discusses the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drug use while operating a motor vehicle.

–      focuses strictly on high-risk behaviors of the 15 to 25 age group and not on driving mechanics, unlike a driver’s education course.

–       was designed and is administered by the National Safety Council out of its Columbia office.

Remember, every student is required to supply proof he/she completed the Alive At 25 course before he/she can buy a parking pass at any high school in our county.

If students do not complete Alive At 25, they will NOT be allowed to park on school grounds, and we WILL have cars towed that are parked illegally.
