Indian Land Girls Tennis Team defeats Cheraw 6-1, wins region

The Indian Land Lady Warrior Tennis Team won IV Oct. 12 with a 6-1 win over Cheraw.

As Region IV-AA Champions in Women’s Tennis for 2010, the Warriors will host a playoff match on Oct. 28 vs. the runner-up from Region III-AA.

In addition, Hannah Shoemaker’s win earned her a spot in the State Singles Tournament for AA/A schools Nov. 13 & 14 in Lexington.

“The girls have worked hard for this result. Last season, they split the matches with Cheraw, so these two wins by large margins make it clear they have improved over the last 12 months,” Coach Doug Young said. “It’s great to be going to the playoffs for the first time in only the fourth year of the program.”

Coach Young also had praise for Hannah Shoemaker.

“This is her fourth straight win over Ms. Chapman, who always plays her tough. Tonight, she had to overcome a bad spell in the middle of the match. She fought her way through the trouble and ended up controlling the result.”

At the start of the season, the team set two goals: a winning season and a #1 seed in the playoffs. With their win tonight, the Lady Warriors are 6 – 5 for the season and have their #1 playoff seed.
