Girls defeat Lakewood 44-42 to take AAA state

Lancaster High won the AAA State Championship Saturday, March 7, in USC’s Colonial Center, beating last year’s state champ Lakewood 44-42.
The Bruins, 27-0 on the season, began their playoff March by defeating South Pointe 55-53 March 10 to clinch the region championship.
The Bruins then defeated Greer 66-49 in the first round of the playoffs, Lower Richland 52-39 in the second round, Southside 41-10 in the third round and Dreher 42-35 to clinch the Upper State Championship.
The girls basketball state championship was the first for Lancaster High since 1959. The school’s girls team also won a state championship in 1947.
