The Indian Land Lady Warrior Tennis Team defeated the visiting Cheraw Lady Braves 6 – 1 Oct. 5.
Coach Doug Young was pleased with the way the team responded to its loss the previous day to Porter Ridge High of North Carolina.
“They really came back focused today, intent on winning, rather than trying not to lose,” Young said. “We’ve had several cancellations this year by opponents, missing four matches that way. It’s hard on the girls to have a match cancelled; they want so much to play. This win should restore some good spirits.”
Early victories by April Ciccone and Alex Greenawalt set the tone for the afternoon, and Kim Koenig blitzed through her first set before coasting comfortably to the win in her match.
The only early concern was Hannah Shoemaker, who let the first seven games get away from her, before recovering to record her third successive defeat of Tiffany Chapman (going back to last year).
The match was the first regional match of the season for the Lady Warriors, who are now 5 – 5 on the season.
