Dear Lancaster County School District Family,
It is with a deep sense of gratitude and respect that I share with you that I will be stepping down as Superintendent of the Lancaster County School District at a date approved by the board to provide for the best transition. This decision comes after much reflection and prayer, guided by the need to be closer to my aging parents as they face increasing health challenges.
Please know that this decision does not come from any dissatisfaction with our district or community. In fact, serving as your Superintendent has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling experiences of my professional life. Each day, I have witnessed firsthand the unwavering dedication, passion, and heart you bring to your work. Together, we have accomplished so much to move Lancaster County forward in academics, athletics, the arts, and activities. We have been All In for All Students in All Areas of the County All the Time ensure that we are One Lancaster!
Over the past two years, our district has seen tremendous growth and achievement. Student performance has improved, graduation rates have increased, and new opportunities for college and career readiness have taken root. These milestones are a direct reflection of your hard work, professionalism, and relentless belief that every student deserves excellence every day.
I am especially proud of what we have achieved together through our Strategic Plan: aligning our vision, mission, and goals to strengthen instruction, enhance safety, and deepen community trust. The culture of continuous improvement we’ve built will continue to propel Lancaster County toward becoming the premier district in South Carolina.
While this transition is bittersweet, I am filled with confidence and hope for the future. The foundation we have built together is strong, and the best days for our students, staff, and community still lie ahead. Lancaster County will always hold a special place in my heart, not only for the progress we’ve made but for the people who made it possible (you).
Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve alongside you, to learn from you, and to lead with you. It has truly been an honor to be part of this incredible journey with such remarkable educators and staff who embody what it means to put children first. Don’t ever stop pursuing excellence, as it is the relentless pursuit of excellence that has brought us this far.
Yours for Excellence in Education,
Raashad Fitzpatrick, Ed.D.
