LANCASTER, SC — The Lancaster County School District (LCSD) is proud to announce the Multimedia Showcase, a premier event designed to connect students with industry-leading professionals in the fields of broadcasting, photography, reporting, social media, and writing. The showcase took place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Buford Multipurpose Building.
The event serves as a unique opportunity for LCSD students enrolled in Creative Writing, Digital Art and Design, Yearbook, Journalism, Media Tech, Photography, and Public Speaking to gain real-world insights into the evolving media landscape. Participants from Andrew Jackson High, Buford High, Indian Land High, Lancaster High, and the LCSD Career Center engaged in a full day of networking and learning.
Event Highlights and Keynote Speakers
The showcase featured a robust schedule beginning with registration at 10:00 AM, followed by a series of keynote addresses and specialized breakout sessions. Featured keynote speakers:
Hannah Goetz: TV Anchor/Reporter, WSOC-TV
Kayland Hagwood: TV Anchor/Reporter
Bo Thompson: Radio Host, WBT Radio
Hannah Goetz, WSOC-TV Anchor and Reporter in Charlotte, NC shared, “Find what you love and lean into it. That’s what I did. I found something that I started in high school and had fun with and now I get to do it every day.”
Ava Patterson, Buford High School student and winner of the Podcast Studio shared, “All these people have very similar experiences that I have had. All of us have been through these situations. I know that I can get better and that makes me more confident in my future.”
Professional Breakout Sessions
Students attended various sessions tailored to their specific interests, including:
Writing & Reporting: Sessions on "Writing Like a Journalist" with Kim Holt and "Why Local Journalism Matters" with Jane Alford and Mandy Catoe.
Digital & Visual Arts: "Graphic Design in Media" with Jessica Lawson and "From Lens to Narrative" with photographer Jason Walle.
Broadcasting & Podcasting: "The Art of the Interview" with Bo Thompson and "Authenticity and Responsibility" with the Heel Brothers.
Filmmaking: "The DIY Film Grind: Making Movies on a Budget" with Phillip Fleming.
Students had the opportunity to submit their work for feedback and prizes. Industry tools and prizes will be raffled and students will receive a free event t-shirt.
Our guest presenters and or community partners, including Nutramax Laboratories, the Arras Foundation, Seth’s Giving Tree, and Jay Bird’s Deli & Diner and individual donors made this event possible.
