Third grade has been busy! Over the last few weeks, our Tomahawks have been preparing opinion writing pieces in collaboration with York County Humane Society. Our students wrote to advocate for the adoption of the shelter’s longest residing animals. Today, the Humane Society helped us celebrate the ending of our unit by bringing two sweet pups! Our students learned the power of opinion writing while also bettering our community! A huge thank you to York County Humane Society for partnering with us! If you have a 3rd grader, be sure to ask them about Kelce and Penny!!

Harrisburg Has Heart was a huge success this year! So many smiles, canned goods, pet supplies, sweet cards for Veterans and socks...so, so many socks!! Thank you to all who participated! We have lots of prizes to hand out too! Friday, the following Tomahawks were awarded the grand prizes for this year's Harrisburg Has Heart! Stripes were plentiful around campus today...we celebrated Rare Disease Awareness Day by "showing our stripes" to promote awareness of the 1 in 10 Americans living with a rare disease. How appropriate for Leap Day...the rarest day of the year!

How did your staff celebrate Mardi Gras...ours celebrated by beading up early this morning and fiercely competing with their friends for more....Rock, Paper, Scissors was the name...maximum bead collection was the game! Erin Cundiff reigned supreme with 63 necklaces...Lombardi has nothing on her trophy...so if your kids are talking about their silly teachers tonight...they might just be right!

Harrisburg Has Heart in Art. Students in art class are learning about different artists that use hearts in their art. Many artists have been inspired by the shape of hearts to create their art. In this lesson, students explored different artists and a variety of media.

The HES PTO showed up and showed out today!!! What an absolutely gorgeous display of love to celebrate #HarrisburgHasHeart month and to recognize our amazing staff!! It's is National School Counseling Week!!! We look forward ro introducing you to our wonderful counseling program throughout the week....we believe that it is our job to, not only teach our kids, but to make sure that each child in our care feels seen, valued and supported. This team is a main source of continuity for students amidst changes and challenges both inside and outside of school. We are lucky to have a team that will reach far beyond the school walls to support families. We look forward to sharing more great things with you throughout the week!
